With the Saturday deadline approaching fast, the FPL managers are looking for different combinations to strengthen their team. After two gameweeks, the FPL Managers have now got an idea about the players to watch out for and the teams to target.
Here we are with our Top 5 defender picks for Gameweek 3, the players we expect to deliver points again.
1. Aaron Creswell (£5.5m), West Ham vs Crystal Palace
West Ham United the team in form and the current Premier League leaders give us our first pick. Aaron Creswell is known for providing attacking returns to add to the defensive points he gets. West Ham has started the season on the front foot and Creswell contributed with a goal in the first match of the season.
A home game against Crystal Palace boosts the chances of a clean sheet. Palace have been poor defensively as well, so the chances of an assist or attacking return in any form can be expected.
2. Ricardo Pereira (£5.5m), Norwich vs Leicester
Pereira started the season with a 12-point haul and announced his return after an injury-ravaged season last time around. Although the defender could not impact against West Ham, better performance is expected when the Foxes face Norwich City.
Norwich has been poor all around conceding 8 goals in 2 games and scoring 0. The chances of a clean sheet for Pereira are very high along with an assist against a weak Norwich defence. The defender is owned by only 5.6% of FPL managers and those owning him could expect a good gameweek 3.
3. Japhet Tanganga (£4.5m), Spurs vs Watford
This is a differential option to have in the defence. Japhet Tanganga, the Spurs academy player has been starting at right-back under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo. Spurs have kept 2 clean sheets in 2 games, one of which came against the defending champions Manchester City.
A match against Watford boosts the chances of a clean sheet which would mean 6 assured points. To find a starting 4.5 defender with these returns could go a long way in deciding a manager’s final rank of the season. Not to mention that Tanganga is only selected by 2.4% of managers so could prove to be a brilliant differential.
4. Luke Shaw (£5.5m), Wolves vs Manchester United
The most popular defender picks this FPL season, Luke Shaw has not started the season on a brilliant note. The United left-back is yet to provide an assist or score a goal. However, Shaw has created 4 chances and is also one of their set-piece takers.
A match against Wolves could be the fixture where the attacking returns come in for the Englishmen. Wolves have been poor defensively and Shaw could get an assist or two if not a clean sheet. He is currently owned by more than half the managers who play FPL. So, a big haul from him will mean disappointment if you do not have him on your team.
5. Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m), Liverpool vs Chelsea
The highest priced defender in FPL, provided relief to his high ownership after a 12-point haul against Burnley. TAA plays an important role in Liverpool’s attack so it is not surprising to see his high amount of ownership. Although the match against Chelsea will not be easy, there is always a chance for something to happen.
The match against The Londoners will mean a rare chance to keep a clean sheet. However, TAA is also on corners and set pieces for Liverpool, hence a chance to get attacking returns.
