FPL Gameweek 27 Captaincy choices and Differential Picks Premier League 2021-22

Double Gameweek 26 saw a record broken for the number of FPL managers captaining a single player. The triple captain chip on Salah was the most popular and yielded the result with 84 points. The captaincy choice will not be that easy in Gameweek 27, especially with Salah blanking.

There were several differentials too in Gameweek 26 like Ben Mee, Zaha, and Weghorst who rewarded the owners with a green arrow who went differential. In a week where Arsenal and Liverpool will be blanking, it is key to have the right set of differentials to improve the ranking.

Here are the FPL captaincy choices for Gameweek 27:

1) Son Heung-Min – Leeds (A)

Although Spurs have not been in the best of forms, Son has been one of the bright sparks in the side. After his return from injury, Son has scored once and assisted twice in the 4 games that he played. In Gameweek 27, Son and co. face a Leeds side who has shipped 16 goals in their last 4 matches.

Against a struggling Leeds side who tend to give spaces on the wings, Son is a great option to consider for captaincy. In a week where we will be seeing a mixed captaincy option rather than a popular one, it is important to be right on spot with the choice.

2) Riyad Mahrez – Everton (A)

Our next captaincy candidate is from a Manchester City side which will be raring to go against Everton after their loss against Spurs. Mahrez has been one of the important players for Pep this season which makes him nailed-on to start.

Against Spurs too, Mahrez came on to score a late penalty which echoed Pep’s statement when he said Mahrez will be on penalties this season. This fact adds to the advantages of captaining Mahrez in a fixture against a leaky Everton side in Gameweek 27.

3) Wout Weghorst – Crystal Palace (A), Leicester (H)

A Burnley forward might not be the most popular option for captaincy in FPL, however this might just be the time. Burnley have been on a run of their own having won their last 2 matches which included a win over Spurs. Gameweek 26 also saw Weghorst scoring and assisting a goal against Brighton which makes him a popular option for Gameweek 27.

The fact that Burnley are the only team that plays twice in Gameweek 27, helps Weghorst’s case for captaincy. As seen last week, the forward was involved in Burnley’s attack and proved to be a great aerial threat which can trouble the likes of Leicester City.

Differential Picks for Gameweek 27:

1) Che Adams (3.6% ownership) – Norwich (H)

Southampton have been impressive in their recent outings having gone 4 matches unbeaten. While all the talk has been about getting Broja in the FPL team, here is a differential in Che Adams who could prove to be a great pick.

Adams has returned 21 points in his last 3 games which include 2 goals and an assist. The forward is currently owned by only 3.6% of FPL managers and could be an alternative to Broja, with the advantage of recent form.

2) Raheem Sterling (4.8% ownership) – Everton (A)

When talking about Manchester City assets to own in FPL, Sterling goes quite under the radar as compared to the likes of De Bruyne, Foden and Mahrez. However, recent outings prove that Sterling could be the man to go for.

With 29 points in his last 3 games, Sterling looks nailed on to start again this week. At 4.8% ownership, Sterling could be a great differential to the likes of Mahrez, especially if you are on a Free hit this week. Against Everton, City are expected to continue their goalscoring run and Sterling could prove to be a great pick.

3)   Ben Mee (4.1% ownership) - Crystal Palace (A), Leicester (H)

The only team with Double gameweek in 27 is Burnley, and with the form that they are in, it is not wrong to consider their defensive assets as well. Having conceded only 2 goals in their last 6 games, Burnley are a side to watch out for defensively.

Mee has been one of the key players during that run, and to add to it the aerial threat from set-pieces, Mee could prove to be a quality differential for the week.
