In T20 cricket, powerplay is a very important part of every team. As powerplay runs for the first six overs of a T20I innings, where only two fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard circle, it is the best chance for the batters to score many runs through the big shots.

Top 5 Highest Powerplay Scores in IPL history


The highest powerplay score in IPL history is 125/0 by Sunrisers Hyderabad against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024. This remarkable feat came in the first six overs, featuring a blistering 13 fours and 11 sixes. Sunrisers Hyderabad holds the top two highest powerplay scores in IPL history.


5. PBKS - 93/1, Punjab Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders, IPL 2024

During the IPL 2024, when the Punjab Kings were chasing an impossible-looking target of 262 runs against the hosts Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab openers Prabhsimran Singh and Jonny Bairstow provided a fiery start. They set up a 93-run partnership for the first wicket before Singh was run out on the final ball of the powerplay after scoring 54 off just 27 balls.

Punjab Kings stunned KKR by winning the match by eight wickets with eight balls remaining, as they successfully chased the highest T20 target. 

 

4. CSK- 100/2, Chennai Super Kings vs Kings XI Punjab, Qualifier 2, IPL 2014

It was a story about the first 36 balls of Chennai Super Kings’ chase of 227 in Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2014. Suresh Raina scored 87 runs off just 25 balls at a breathtaking strike rate of 348, featuring 18 hits to the fence, apart from two wickets in between.

It was the first three-figure powerplay score in IPL history. Suresh Raina made a stormy start which helped Chennai Super Kings to collect 100 runs in the powerplay. However, CSK lost the match by 24 runs.

 

3. KKR - 105/0, Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, IPL 2017

Chasing 159, Kolkata Knight Riders sprung a surprise by opening with Sunil Narine with Chris Lynn. Lynn scored 14 runs in the first over and another 14 in the third, and then Narine smashed the fourth over for 26.  By the end of the Powerplay, Narine had reached his fifty, while Lynn was on 49. The score of 105 was then a record for the highest powerplay in not just the IPL but all Twenty20 matches.

This was the same match in which Narine leveled the fastest ever (off 15 balls) IPL half-century.


2. SRH - 107/0, SunRisers Hyderabad vs Lucknow Super Giants, IPL 2024

Chasing down the 166-run target, hosts SunRisers Hyderabad started to thrash the Lucknow Super Giants' bowlers from the early overs. The powerplay experienced three 20 or more runs and two more 17 runs as SRH scored 107/0 in six overs. At the end of the powerplay, while Travis Head scored 58 off 18 balls, his opening partner Abhishek Sharma scored off 18 balls. During the powerplay, the SRH openers hit 13 fours and eight sixes. 

SRH comfortably chased the target in just 9.4 overs without losing a wicket as Sharma was not out on 75 off 28 balls and Head was unbeaten on 89 off 30 balls. 


1. SRH - 125/0, SunRisers Hyderabad vs Delhi Capitals, IPL 2024

While SRH batters were dominant and aggressive during the IPL 2024, they set another unforgettable powerplay dominance moment during their match against the hosts Delhi Capitals. After they were sent to bat first, SRH set the record of highest powerplay score in IPL scoring 125/0 in the first six overs, thanks to 13 fours and 11 sixes. SRH recorded only five dot balls in that powerplay apart from six singles. Opener Travis Head completed his fifty in just 16 balls. Meanwhile, before losing his wicket just after the powerplay, another opener Abhishek Sharma scored 46 off 12 balls.


While SRH scored 266/7 in 20 overs, Delhi Capitals were all out for 199 runs.
