During the crucial CSK vs LSG (Chennai
Super Kings vs Lucknow Super Giants) encounter in the 39th match of the IPL
2024 in Chennai, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad created history. The right-handed
opening batter became the first CSK captain to score a century.
After LSG captain KL Rahul chose
to field first, CSK lost their opener, Ajinkya Rahane (1), in the first over.
However, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad’s solid approach laid a strong foundation
for the CSK, and he later got huge support from Shivam Dube.
With his 56-ball hundred, Ruturaj
stretched his innings to 108 not out off 60 balls, with the help of 12 fours
and three sixes. Also, Dube scored 66 runs off 27 balls with the help of three
fours and seven sixes. These batting performances helped CSK to score 210/4 in 20 overs.
In reply, Marcus Stoinis’ strong century
inspired a successful chase for LSG. After completing his first IPL century in
56 balls, Stoinis scored 124 not out off 63 balls (13 fours and six sixes) as LSG
chased down the target in 19.3 overs after losing four wickets. While Nicholas
Pooran scored 34 off 15 balls (three fours and two sixes), Deepak Hooda was not
out on 17 off six balls (two fours and only six).
