Indian captain Rohit Sharma broke the record for most appearances in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup history on Sunday (30th October) when India faced South Africa at Perth during the Group 1 of the Super 12 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
It was a low-scoring thriller game, where South Africa beat India by five wickets. However, it was Rohit Sharma’s 36th T20 World Cup – the new record for most T20 World Cup appearances.
Before this T20 World Cup, former Sri Lankan cricketer Tillakaratne Dilshan was holding the most T20 World Cup appearances record with 35 matches. Rohit Sharma equalled that record during their match against the Netherlands, where the Indian team won by 56 runs. So, the South Africa match helped Rohit to create a new history in this record book.
Among the active cricketers, Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan is chasing Rohit with 34 T20 World Cup matches.
