Pat Cummins Becomes First Bowler To Record Two Hat-Tricks In T20 World Cup

Australian star right-arm fast bowler Pat Cummins once again shined with a hat-trick against Afghanistan in their Super 8 match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. It was his second hat-trick in the ongoing T20 World Cup, as the Aussie pacer recorded a hat-trick in back-to-back T20 World Cup matches.

Australia started their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 (Group 1) journey with the match against Bangladesh. While they beat Bangladesh by 28 runs (DLS method), Pat Cummins completed his first international hat-trick in the span of two overs.

Now, in their next game, Cummins took another T20 World Cup hat-trick. Just like his previous hat-trick, he completed his latest T20I hat-trick in the span of two overs. After dismissing Afghan skipper Rashid Khan (2) on the final ball of the 18th over, Cummins started the final over of the innings with the back-to-back wickets of Karim Janat (13) and Gulbadin Naib (0).

• Pat Cummins became the first bowler to record two hat-tricks in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup history.

• While Serbian captain Mark Pavlovic recorded T20I hat-tricks in two consecutive days (but not in two consecutive matches), Cummins had a one-day gap in his back-to-back T20 World Cup hat-tricks.
• After Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga, Cummins became the second bowler to record multiple hat-tricks in ICC World Cup tournaments. Malinga recorded two hat-tricks in ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup history (one in 2007 vs South Africa and one in 2011 vs Kenya).
• However, Cummins became the first bowler to record multiple hat-tricks in the same ICC World Cup tournament.
