On Day 1 of the Asian Games 2023, India won two shooting medals as Ramita Jindal had vital roles in both those medals. While the Indian women’s 10m air rifle team won the silver medal, Ramita also clinched the bronze medal in the individual women’s 10m air rifle event.

The women’s 10m air rifle team opened up India’s medal tally at the Asian Game 2022 in Hangzhou (China), as the Indian team won the silver medal. Mehuli Ghosh, Ramita Jindal, and Ashi Chouksey were the team members of that success.

The Indian team finished with a combined score of 1886. While the Chinese team scored 1896.6 points to clinch the gold medal, the bronze medallists Mongolia had a total of 1880 points.     

Among the Indians, Ramita scored 631.9, Mehuli scored 630.8, and Ashi finished with 623.3 points. In the final individual rankings, Ramita finished in the second position, Mehuli managed the fifth spot, and Ashi finished in the 29th place.

Meanwhile, in the individual women’s 10m air rifle event, Ramita brought India’s first individual medal at the ongoing 19th Asian Games by securing a bronze medal. The 19-year-old former World Junior Champion (2022) finished the final event with a score of 230.1.

Chinese shooters Huang Yuting (252.7) and Han Jiayu (251.3) won the gold and silver medals, respectively.

In the eight-shooter final event, Mehuli was the other Indian who finished in the fourth position after managing the score of 208.43.
