The 19-year-old Chinese shooter Sheng Lihao won the gold medal in the men’s 10m air rifle event by registering a new Olympic record.
Sheng Lihao broke Tokyo 2020 record
Lihao scored 252.2 to win the gold medal and set up a new Olympic record. The previous Olympic record in the men’s 10m air rifle event final was 251.6 by USA shooter William Shaner during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
From the very first round of stage one in the Paris 2024 Olympics final, Tokyo 2020 silver medalist Lihao dominated, comfortably securing the gold medal.
Lihao won another gold medal in the Paris 2024 Olympics as he and Huang Yuting secured the gold medal in the 10m air rifle mixed team event.
How many medals has Sheng Lihao won?
Lihao is also the world record holder of the men’s 10m air rifle final event (254.5) and qualification for the 10m air rifle event (637.9). Lihao has now won three Summer Olympic medals, including two golds and one silver.
Other top performers in the Paris 2024 Olympics
Swedish Victor Lindgren secured the silver medal, and Croatian Miran Maričić clinched the bronze medal with scores of 251.4 and 230.0, respectively. Both claimed their first medal in the Summer Olympics.
Indian shooter Arjun Babuta also qualified for the final event. Although he started strongly, he ultimately slipped to fourth place by the end of the event. Before his elimination, the Indian shooter scored 208.4.
