The debutants are always a hot property, especially when bought at lucrative prices as they create an air of mystery and danger for the oppositions. The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is almost round the corner and the buzz is aplenty. It has been 14 years for the league that started amidst paranoia and uncertain voices, with the purists of the game looking towards the amalgamation of glamour and cricket with a sceptic’s eye. Cut to 2021, IPL has stamped its place in the hearts of billions with a force that no other league in the cricketing world has been able to even get close to.
Here check out the top 5 debutant in IPL 2021 to watch out for:
1. Kyle Jamieson:
The Kiwi all-rounder who made his debut for the national side in February 2020 only, has lured too many eye-balls in the IPL Auction of 2021. He was sold to RCB for a whopping sum of Rs.15 crores.
Virat will be very pleased to have this all-rounder in his roster as this will give him options in both the departments- batting and bowling. With a price tag of Rs.15 crores to his name, it is improbable that he is going to sit out. He will surely be a first choice for the Virat’s RCB.
2. Shah Rukh Khan:
The Tamil Nadu all-rounder who had a base price of 20 Lakhs was roped in by the rechristened Punjab Kings for a whopping sum of 5.25 Crores. While Shahrukh’s massive price tag caught some by surprise, it was not as much a surprise for those who have even remotely followed his domestic career. The 6-feet-4-inches tall, hard-hitting all-rounder came into the limelight by finishing games for Tamil Nadu, although he was unable to break in the IPL straightaway. His toil paid off this season after he shone brightly in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and kept his nerves in the tense quarter-final game, where he smacked a 19-ball 40 to bail his team.
3. Mohammed Azharuddeen:
Hailing from a remote town of Kerala, Mohammed Azharuddeen’s breakthrough moment arrived when one of the most popular franchises of the tournament, Royal Challengers Bangalore, showed interest in him and acquired him at his base price of 20 Lakhs. He turned all heads by smashing the second-fastest century in the recent edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, as he reached the landmark in only 37 deliveries against Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium. A record innings of 137 laced with 9 fours and 11 sixes led Kerala to accomplish their highest-ever chase in the tournament as they gunned down the target of 197 in merely 15.5 overs. He finished the tournament with 214 runs from 5 innings and his stroke-filled, 137-run knock proved enough to garner the attention of the franchise.
4. Chetan Sakariya:
Bought by the Royals for Rs. 1.20 crore, the 23-year-old left-arm quick grabbed attention after impressing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021, which he ended as the sixth-highest wicket taker. The Saurashtra bowler has played 16 T20s from which he has 28 wickets including a five-wicket haul. His economy of 7.08 is also impressive. Chetan’s stats in the shortest format are likely to warrant him a place in Rajasthan’s playing XI, more so because Jofra Archer is unavailable for the first few games.
5. Dawid Malan:
The southpaw batsman hailing from England, has been in the form of his life in the shorter format of the game. He is currently dwelling at the top of the ICC Player Rankings for T20 Batsmen. He came to the fore initially as a low order batsman and eventually evolved as a top order batsman.
In the 19 innings he has featured in so far, he has amassed 855 runs with a healthy average of 53.44. He will accompany the Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul top of the order and the world no.1 and no.2 T20 batsmen will unleash their destruction.
