Tuesday 10th October 2023 was the biggest and the most watched night in wrestling. It was when NXT and AEW went head to head after a long time and this was for one night only. This was a night that had the biggest stars appear for both shows and both NXT and AEW wanted to win this war. One side added the biggest of WWE superstars and stacked their show with talent and the other had a series of matches that were bangers. The ultimate winners were the Wrestling fans.
Let’s look at the ratings and what it means for each show
NXT crushed AEW Dynamite
The ratings were in and it was not close as NXT has 921,000 average viewers that tuned in to watch the biggest show ever. This was the 3rd Highest viewership in the history of NXT. Shawn Michaels did not come to play and he brought out all the big guns such as John Cena, The Undertaker, Cody Rhodes and Asuka. The show was a great show headlined by Carmelo Hayes vs Bron Breakker. AEW Dynamite averaged 609,000 viewers which is one of the lowest in their history and this was labelled as the biggest AEW Dynamite of all time and it had the debut of Adam Copeland. This show also had Bryan Danielson vs Swerve Strickland and others
NXT clearly won the war in Tuesday and they knew what would draw the most viewers and they announced the biggest stars such as John Cena, Cody Rhodes and Asuka. Then soon enough they releases an advertisement where at the end the gong of The Undertaker was heard and the fans got even more excited. Shawn Michaels did not say anything on Twitter or anywhere. NXT had been on an upward swing and Becky Lynch had a big thing to do with the rise. She has elevated the women’s division of NXT. And getting more than 50% more viewers than the competition says that there was no war as this was a rout. AEW had beaten NXT consistently in the Wednesday Night Wars so this will feel good for WWE and Shawn Michaels will take the momentum from this show and carry it forward.
On the other hand, AEW Dynamite has ira lowest viewership at 609,000 which is a figure that Tony Khan would not have seen in the worst nightmares. AEW had a big show where they had Bryan Danielson vs Swerve Strickland, Chris Jericho, Ray Fenix, Jay White and MJF and the Debut match of Adam Copeland. They would have expected to do much better and Tony Khan has been attacking both Shawn Michaels and Triple H ever since this war started a week ago and a few days ago he crossed lines. He was reacting to every announcement that NXT made instead of being pro active. NXT announced the first 30 minutes commercial free so AEW did the same. And after the ratings were out, Tony Khan went crazy on Twitter as he was saying that Shawn Michaels will not win the Wrestling Observer Booker of the Year and he was obsessing over Cageside Match Reviews. Hope AEW gets better from here and NXT continues its momentum
