This defeat against visitors (India) will haunt the hosts (Australia) for a very long time. After 1-0 up in the series, the Australia team has still lost the final test match and series by 2-1 against visitors (India) who’s playing without their key players. There are too many changes which are going to happen in the Australia test line-up before the New Zealand series in the next month. From the captain to bowling to fielding it's the complete average performance from Australia in the test series after winning the first test match quite easily. Although the bowlers like Pat Cummins and Josh Hazelwood were good enough with their seam line and length but too many dropped catches and poor fielding cost them to lose the border-Gavaskar Trophy once again like back in the 2018 season.
Not only Australia has lost the test match but their undefeated streak at Gabba of never losing the test match since 1988 is ended by team India victory by 3 wickets in the decider match of the series. Although some poor umpiring decisions in the final test match also went against Australia when Pujara was caught in the front of wicket on Nathan Lyon delivery but due to the benefit of the doubt it was given in the favour of the batsman. Earlier, after winning the toss Australia had decided to bat first and they were in the good position at the score 311/5 in the first innings at one stage. But the wicket of Tim Paine has opened the floodgates for visitors (India) to destroy the Australia team before they were bundled out at the score of 369 runs in the first innings.
Australia has restricted the team India at the score 186/6, before Washington Sundar (62) and Shardul Thakur (67) put on a 123-run stand partnership for the seventh wicket to take India back into this game and visitors have scored 336 runs in their first innings. With the lead of 33 runs in the first innings Australia team have failed to score big runs in the second innings before giving the target of 328 runs to the visitors in the fourth innings of the match. David Warner (48) and Steve Smith (55) were the leading run-scorer for Australia in the second innings. Apart from these two no other Australian batsman was able to cross the 40-run mark in the second innings of Australia.
Team India had the target to chase in 100 overs on the final day of the test match as due to rain the match was interrupted on day four in the evening session. Rohit Sharma was sent back to pavilion on Pat Cummins caught by Tim Paine at the score of 18/1. At this stage, it was still not clear who would win this test match but the youngster Shubman Gill who’s playing his first series took on the charge and produced another great knock of his class while scoring 91 runs off 146 balls which feature 8 fours and 2 sixes. The counter attack punch from Gill cleared the intentions that team India was in this chase. Unlucky Gill was out by Nyon before scoring his maiden test century in the famous test victory.
With momentum on the team India side after Gill Wicket the other Indian batsman didn’t give any chance to Australian bowlers to get them back into this test match. Pujara (56) and Rishabh pant remained unbeaten on 89 runs while hitting the winning the four take team India to memorable 3 wickets win at Gabba and series win by 2-1. Pant was awarded with Man of the match for his brilliant knock of 89 runs in the second innings of team India.
