In the thrilling Ashes 2023, the English Test captain Ben Stokes created a new history by recording the most sixes by a batter in an Ashes series. The left-handed batter also recorded the most sixes by a captain in a bilateral Test series.
In the Ashes 2023, English captain Ben Stokes became the fourth cricketer and third English batter to complete 400 runs in the tournament. The left-handed batter scored 405 runs in nine innings of the Ashes 2023, including one century and two half-centuries. Stokes hit 31 fours and smashed 15 sixes in the entire competition.
In the Lord’s Test, while Stokes scored 155 runs in the fourth innings, the left-handed batter smashed nine sixes in that innings. In his next innings at Leeds, he scored 80 runs with the help of five sixes. The other one six Stokes hit during the third innings of The Oval Test, where the English captain scored 42 runs.

With 15 sixes, Stokes broke former English cricketer Kevin Pietersen’s record for most sixes in an Ashes series. While Pietersen recorded 14 sixes during the Ashes 2005, Stokes now takes the top position in the list with 15 sixes.

Meanwhile, Stokes has also recorded the most sixes by a captain in a bilateral Test series. Former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum was the previous record holder in this list with 13 sixes during the New Zealand tour of UAE for a Test series against Pakistan in November 2014.

Ben Stokes’ 15 sixes in the Ashes 2023: Joint second most sixes by a batter in a Test series
On the other hand, with his 15 sixes in the Ashes 2023, Stokes also managed the joint second position in the list of most sixes in a bilateral Test series (with Caribbean cricketer Shimron Hetmyer’s 15 sixes against the hosts Bangladesh in the 2018 Test series).
Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma holds the record for most sixes in a Test series with 19 sixes against South Africa in the October 2019 home Test series.
