During their first innings of the Old Trafford Test in the Ashes 2023, English cricketer Jonny Bairstow remained 99 not out, while England were all out for 592 runs. Bairstow became the second cricketer in the Ashes history to score 99 not out.

Trailing the series by 1-2, the hosts England chose to field first after winning the toss in the fourth Test of the five-match series. In reply to Australia’s first innings total of 317 runs, England scored 592 runs, which was their sixth-highest total in the home Ashes.

Jonny Bairstow scored 99 not out in 81 balls

While the opener Zak Crawley scored 189 runs, Moeen Ali (54), Joe Root (84), Harry Brook (61) and skipper Ben Stokes (51) all scored 50+ runs. Wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow later fired up 99 not out off 81 balls (ten fours and four sixes). For the last wicket, Bairstow added 66 runs with James Anderson, where Bairstow scored 50 runs, and Anderson managed five runs.

However, Cameron Green trapped Anderson for an lbw dismissal as Bairstow unfortunately missed out on his deserving Test century. The right-handed wicketkeeper-batter remained not out on 99 runs.
