The much awaited test series has commenced when New Zealand lock horns with hosts (England) in 2-match test series, where New Zealand after winning the toss has decided to bat first but soon they found themselves in the uncertainties of clouds when they were reduced to 114 runs for the loss of 3 wickets which included Captain himself Kane Williamson (13), Ross Taylor (14) and Tom Latham (23).

At once, it looked the hosts were successful in their strategy to give the early breakthroughs to the visitors but the debutant Devon Conway has made the strong announcement on his test debut while becoming the second player to score century at Lord's after Sourav Ganguly who scored 1996. Devon Conway remained unbeaten 136 runs alongside Henry Nicholls remained unbeaten on 46 runs to  end the first day’s play at 246 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.

Both these New Zealand batsmen have added 132 runs partnership for the fourth wicket and never lost any other wicket in the further day's play. Where England experimented with their regular four bowlers including captain Joe Root who bowled 12 overs but none of them were effective after the morning session.

After the day's play, Devon Conway in a conversation has said,

"It's a very good feeling," Devon Conway told Sky. "I'll have some time to let that settle in. The job's not done but I'm very happy. I had a conversation with Kane a couple of days ago and asked him what it feels like to go on that honours board. The first thing he said to me was: "Now you're on it, boy."

The former England captain Michael Vaughan has been impressed to see masterclass innings from Devon Conway and in a conversation has reckons,

“Devon Conway played a lovely innings, in which he let the bowlers come to him, and batted on his Test debut as if to the manner born. And England’s bowlers put in a challenging shift on a difficult surface… In Conway, they had just the player to make good use of a nice batting strip,” Hussain wrote.

Nassier Hussain further added,

“The tourists’ coach, Gary Stead, has spoken about picking on character, and somehow New Zealand just found a way of producing these tough cricketers. He had a nice rhythm to his batting, and he wasn’t afraid to suck up a tough spell when Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad were making it swing after lunch. We’ve seen all around the world in recent years how openers have struggled against the new ball, but Conway looked a natural.

I spoke to the New Zealand commentator Simon Doull about him before play, and he just said ‘we’ve got another one in the mould of Kane Williamson – he bats long and he bats time. Conway bats on middle stump, has a fluency to his game, and plays beside the ball, which opens up different scoring areas,” Hussain added.
