Prithviraj Todainman: Early life
Prithviraj Todainman was born on 6th June 1987. He is from Pudukkottai district in Tamil Nadu. His father Rajagopal Tondaiman was also a shotgun shooter, specialised as a skeet shooter. Prithviraj’s mother Sarubala Tondaiman is a politician, who was elected mayor of Tiruchirappalli City Corporation twice. Prithviraj's sister Radha Niranjani is also a trap shooter.
Prithviraj took up the shooting sport at the age of 15. Olympic gold medallist David Kostelecky trained him for a short stint.
Recent ISSF World Cup successes
In the ISSF World Cup 2021 in New Delhi, Prithviraj’s trap men’s team won the gold medal. His trap men’s team also secured three ISSF World Cup silver medals in 2022.
In the ISSF World Cup 2023 in Doha, Prithviraj won his first individual medal for India by securing the bronze medal in the men’s trap event. He also won another bronze medal in the ISSF World Cup 2023 in Lonato.
How did Prithviraj Todainman qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics?
During the ISSF World Championships Shotgun Osijek 2022 in Croatia, Bhowneesh Mendiratta secured India’s first shooting quota for the upcoming Summer Olympics, and that too in the men’s trap event by finishing in fourth place.
After the end of the national selection trials, the only men’s trap shooter for the Paris 2024 Olympics was selected based on the Olympic rankings, and Prithviraj earned the top spot in the intensive battle.
