The Badminton events at the Paris Olympics have come to an end. It was a tightly contested competition with the best players in the world. There were 5 categories in this Olympics which were Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

Men’s Singles
The Men’s Singles is one of the most prestigious competitions for Badminton at the Olympics. This is where the best male players fight it out for the Gold Medal. There were group stage Matches and then there were the Pre Quarter Finals, Quarter Finals, Semi finals and the medal matches. The 4 Players that reached the semi final were-

Kunlavut Vitidsarm of Thailand
One of the semi finals was between Lakshya Sen vs Viktor Axelsen. This was a great match as Lakshya Sen was playing great badminton against the best in the world. The first game was so tight but Viktor Axelsen won it by 22-20. Lakshya missed match point opportunities in this game. The second game was where Lakshya Sen was 7-0 ahead but Viktor Axelsen came back and won the game by 21-14. He qualified for the Gold Medal Match and Lakshya Sen would play for the Bronze Medal. The second semi final was between Lee Zi Jia vs Kunlavut Vitidsarm. This was a one sided match as Kunlavut Vitidsarm won the match in 2 games 21-14 and 21-15.
The medal Matches were held on 5th August. The first match was for the Bronze Medal and was between Lakshya Sen vs Lee Zi Jia. Lakshya Sen took the first game 21-13 but Lee Zi Jia came back and he won the next 2 games. He won them by 21-16 and 21-11 to win the Bronze Medal. The Gold Medal Match was easily won by Viktor Axelsen by 21-11 and 21-11.

Women’s Singles
The Women’s Singles was also a very competitive tournament between the players. Just like the Men there were group stage matches and then the knockouts. Just like Tennis, winning a Gold Medal in Badminton is one of the hardest in the Olympics. The 4 Semi Finalists were –

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung of Indonesia
The first semi final was between He Bingjiao of China against Carolina Marin of Spain. Carolina Marin had won the first game by 21-14 and she was leading by 10-8 in the second game. Then she got injured and she had to retire from the match and He Bingjiao won the match and qualified for the Gold Medal Match. This means the loser of the second semi final would win the Bronze Medal. It was between An- Se Young of South Korea and Gregoria Mariska Tunjung of Indonesia. This was an incredible match which went 3 Games. The player from Indonesia won the first game by 21-11 but the number 1 seed came back strong and won the next 2 games by 21-13 and 21-16.
The Gold Medal Match was between An- Se Young of South Korea vs He Bingjiao of China. This was a match which the player from South Korea won in 2 games by 21-13 and 21-16.

Men’s Doubles
The Men’s Doubles is one of the most fast paced events in Badminton. The players are super fast and the Matches are long and the fans enjoy the long rallies between the players. The 4 teams that made the semi finals were-
Wang- Chi Lin and Lee Yang of Chinese Taipei
Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang of China
Soh Woo Yik and Aaron Chia of Malaysia
Anders Skaarup Rasmussen and Kim Astrup of Denmark
The teams that played the Bronze Medal Match were the teams from Malaysia and Denmark. The team from Malaysia had beaten Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty of India in the Quarter Finals. This was one of the best medal matches of the Olympic Games in Badminton. The first game was won by the team from Denmark 21-16 but the team from Malaysia came back like they always do and they won the next 2 games. Both of them were close and they won by 22-20 and 21-19.
The Gold Medal Match was played between the teams of Chinese Taipei and China. The final was yet another banger at the Olympics. The first game was won by the team from Chinese Taipei 21-17. It is impossible to imagine China going down without a fight. They won the second game 21-18. It was a see saw battle and in the final game it was the team from Chinese Taipei that kept their nerves and won the game 21-19 and won the Gold Medal.

Women’s Doubles
The Women’s Doubles was an event which was dominated by the teams from Asia. This was an event where teams from China, Japan and Malaysia were the best. The 4 teams that reached the semi finals were-

Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning of China
Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida of Japan
Thinah Muralitharan and Pearly Ten of Malaysia
The two teams that played the Bronze Medal match were the teams from Japan and Malaysia. This match was a one sided affair as the team from Japan won this match by 21-11 and 21-11. This was not the case in the Gold Medal Match between the 2 Teams from China. Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan of China won both games. The first game was especially tightly contested as Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan won that game by 22-20. This gave them as advantage and they made full use of it. They won the second game by 21-15 and both the Gold and Silver Medals went to China.

Mixed Doubles
The Mixed Doubles was the event which was decided the first in the Badminton program at the Paris Olympics. The medal matches were held on 2nd August. The 4 teams that reached the semi finals were-

The Bronze Medal Match was played between the team of Japan and Chae Yoo- jung and Seo Sung- jae of South Korea. This was a good match but the team from Japan won the match in 2 games. They won the first game by 21-13 and they won a tight second game by 22-20. By winning this match they won the Bronze Medal for Japan. The final was between China vs Jeong Na- Eun and Kim Woo- ho of South Korea. This was the most one-sided Final in badminton at the Paris Olympics. The team from China won by 21-8 and 21-11.
