I'm really in disbelief: Gabrielle Thomas
Thomas said, according to Olympics.com, "I’m really in disbelief because having an Olympic gold medal is something in my wildest dreams. But at the same time, I know how hard I’ve fought for it.
"This has been six years in the making, head down, working hard, going to really hard meets, pushing yourself, and now it’s here and I’ve done it. This is the happiest moment of my life.”
Julien Alfred shined again for Saint Lucia
Julien Alfred, the women’s 100m gold medallist at the Paris 2024 Olympics, shined with the silver medal in the women’s 200m event after finishing the race in 22.08 seconds. It was the second Olympic medal and the first Olympic silver medal for Saint Lucia.
Another American athlete Brittany Brown earned the bronze medal after clocking the race in 22.20 seconds. Great Britain athletes Dina Asher-Smith (22:22 seconds) and Daryll Neita (22.23 seconds) closely missed out on the podium finish.
No Jamaican in the final
There was no Jamaican in the women’s 200m final. It was the first time since Moscow 1986 that none of the Jamaicans managed a podium finish in the Olympic women’s 200m race. Previously, it happened in Montreal 1976.
