During the Indian Open Race Walking Competition
2024 in Chandigarh on Tuesday (30 January 2024), while Akshdeep Singh defended
the men’s 20km race walk title by setting up a new national record, Suraj
Panwar, Servin and Arshpreet Singh breached the entry standard in the men’s
20km race walk event for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The men’s 20km race walk qualifying standard
for the Paris 2024 Olympics has been set at 1:20:10. At the Indian Open Race
Walking Competition 2024 in Chandigarh, the defending champion Akshdeep Singh
set up a new national record in the event by finishing the race in 1:19:38.
Suraj Panwar, Servin, and Arshpreet Singh also shined
Suraj Panwar, Servin, and Arshpreet Singh
finished in the second, third, and fourth places, respectively, in that same
race. While Panwar clocked 1:19:44, Servin and Arshpreet Singh completed the
race in 1:20:03 and 1:20:04.

India have now a total of six players who have
breached the men’s 20km race walk entry standard for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
During the National Open Race Walking
Championships 2023 in Morabadi in February 2023, Akshdeep
Singh became the first Indian to breach the qualifying standard in this
event for the Paris 2024 Olympics by setting up a national record (1:19:55).
Later, during the Asian 20km Race Walking
Championships 2023 (March 2023) at Nomi (Japan), Vikash
Singh (1:20:05) and Paramjeet Bisht (1:20:08) breached the qualifying
standard for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
However, each national federation can only send
a maximum of three athletes in the men’s 20km race walk event for the upcoming
Summer Olympics 2024 in Paris. National Olympic Committees will have the final authority
to select the country’s representatives for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The Athletics Federation of India will likely confirm
the final selections in June 2024.
