At the Asian Shooting Championships 2024, Rhythm
Sangwan won a bronze medal in the women’s 25m pistol event and secured an
Indian quota in the event for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Jakarta (Indonesia) hosted the Asian Shooting
Championships 2024 in January. In the women’s 25m pistol event at the Asian
Shooting Championships, the top two eligible shooters (maximum one per country)
could secure the national quota for the Paris 2024 Olympics. In the meantime,
each country can hold a maximum of two quotas in any one event for the upcoming
Summer Olympics.
Despite winning the bronze medal, Rhythm Sangwan comfortably secured India’s quota for the Paris 2024 Olympics
The 20-year-old Rhythm Sangwan managed the
podium finish at the end of the 25m pistol final event with a score of 28/45.
Meanwhile, South Korea won the gold and silver medals in that event as Jiin
Yang and Yeji Kim had shots of 41/50 and 32/50, respectively.
Since South Korea already secured their two quotas
in the women’s 25m pistol event for the Paris 2024 Olympics from the previous
competitions, India earned the Olympics quota along with Chinese Taipei during
the Jakarta challenge.
Earlier, Manu
Bhaker secured India’s first quota in the women’s 25m pistol event for the Paris 2024 Olympics after
finishing in fifth place at the Asian Shooting Championships 2023.
However, the National Olympic Committees have
the exclusive authority to make the final decision on national representatives
for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
