Parveen Hooda secured the
country's Summer Olympics quota for the women's 57kg boxing event after booking
her spot for the semi-finals at the Asian Games 2022. In the quarterfinal, the
23-year-old defeated Sitora Turdibekova of Uzbekistan by unanimous decision
(5-0).
Later, she won a bronze medal at
the Asian Games 2022. In the semi-final, she lost against the two-time world
champion Lin Yu Ting of Chinese Taipei by a 5-0 unanimous verdict.
The Asian Games 2022, which were
organised in September–October 2023, were part of the Paris 2024 Olympics
qualification for the boxing event. While the eligible top boxers can book
their respective national quotas for the upcoming Summer Olympics, the National
Olympic Committees (NOC) have exclusive authority for the representation of
their respective countries at the Olympic Games.
