During the Asian Shotgun
Championships 2024 in Kuwait City in January 2024, two Indian shooters won
silver medals in their respective events and secured Indian quotas for the
Paris 2024 Olympics. Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Raiza Dhillon set national
quotas for the upcoming Summer Olympics for the men’s skeet and women’s skeet
events, respectively.
The Asian Shotgun Championships
2024 event was a part of the Paris 2024 Olympics qualification, where the top
two eligible shooters (maximum one per country) could book national quotas for
the upcoming Summer Olympics.
Paris 2024 Olympics: Anantjeet Singh Naruka secured the Indian quota for the men’s skeet event
In the men’s skeet final at the
Asian Shotgun Championships 2024, Anantjeet Singh Naruka won the silver medal.
While the gold medalist Chinese Taipei’s Lee Meng Yuan scored 57/60 in the
final, Anantjeet scored 56/60. Mohammad Aldaihani of Kuwait scored 47/50 to win
the bronze medal.
Paris 2024 Olympics: Raiza Dhillon secured the Indian quota for the women’s skeet event
Meanwhile, Chinese Jinmei Gao won
the gold medal in the women’s skeet event with a score of 56/60. Indian Raiza
Dhillon secured the silver medal with a score of 52/60. Another Indian,
Maheshwari Chauhan, finished third with a score of 43/50 to win the bronze
medal, while the Indian Ganemat Sekhon was fourth with a score of 30/40.
India has now confirmed 19 quotas
in shooting for the Paris 2024 Olympics. It is India’s maximum shooting quota
record for the Summer Olympics, while their previous highest was 15 for Tokyo
2020.
However, Anantjeet Singh Naruka
and Raiza Dhillon confirmed India’s first men’s skeet and women’s skeet quotas,
respectively, for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
For the shooting events in the
Paris 2024 Olympics, the National Olympic Committees (NOC) will make the final
decision on national representatives.
