The 28-year-old Indian shooter Swapnil Kusale will take charge of the nation in the 50m rifle 3 positions at the Paris 2024 Olympics. In the upcoming Summer Olympics, he will only participate in the 50m rifle 3 positions men.

Swapnil Kusale: Early life

Swapnil Kusale was born into a farmer family on 6 August 1995.


In 2009, Swapnil was enrolled in Krida Prabodhini, the Maharashtra government's primary programme dedicated to sports. In 2013, Lakshya Sports, a non-profit organization, recognised Swapnil’s talent and supported him financially. With his dedication and strong performance, he earned a job with the railways.


Recent successes

In the World Cup 2021 in New Delhi, Swapnil was a member of the 50m rifle 3 positions men’s team, which won the gold medal. 

In the World Cup 2022 in Baku, Swapnil secured three medals (one goal and two silvers). While his 50m rifle 3 positions mixed team won the gold medal, his 50m rifle 3 positions men’s team clinched the silver medal along with his individual silver medal in the 50m rifle 3 positions men.


Also, Swapnil was a member of the bronze medal-winning Indian 50m rifle 3 positions men’s team in the World Championships 2022 in Cairo.

 

In the Asian Games 2022, Swapnil was fighting hard in the 50m rifle 3 positions but ended up in fourth place to miss a medal.

How did Swapnil Kusale qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics?

In 2022, Swapnil Kusale secured the third Indian shooting quota for the Paris 2024 Olympics (the first Indian quota for the 50m rifle 3 positions men’s event) after finishing in fourth place in the ISSF World Championship Rifle/Pistol in Cario, Egypt.

 

In recent years, Swapnil has been struggling with a chronic tonsil issue, which has resulted in extreme pain, fever, and weakness for several days. He is suffering from lactose intolerance - a problem with milk products.

 

During the four-stage national selection trials for the Paris 2024 Olympics, Swapnil struggled with his health issues in the Bhopal trials. However, he still performed strongly, produced his top performance, and ended the four-stage selection trials in second place to secure his ticket to Paris 2024. 


Swapnil Kusale’s participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics

Swapnil will represent the nation in only one event at the Paris 2024 Olympics. He will participate in the 50m rifle 3 positions men event.
