Esha Singh's early life: From other sports to shooting
Esha Singh was born on 1st January 2005 in Hyderabad. Her father Sachin Singh was a rally driver, a wide-ranging form of motorsport.
At an early age, Esha experienced some other sports like go-karting, badminton, tennis, and skating. According to media reports, she started shooting sports at the age of nine.
Esha also joined the Gun for Glory Shooting Academy in Pune, Maharashtra. London 2012 Olympics bronze medalist, Gagan Narang, set up the academy in 2011.
Fearless youngster
At the age of 13, Esha became the youngest champion in the senior category after winning a gold medal in the 10m air pistol event at the 62nd National Shooting Championships in 2018 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. In that event, her opponents were four-time Commonwealth medalist Heena Sidhu and Commonwealth Games and Youth Olympics gold medalist Manu Bhaker.
In the ISSF Junior World Cup 2019 in Suhl, Esha secured two medals (silver in the 10m air pistol women and bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team).
In the ISSF Junior Cup 2022 in Suhl, Esha won three team gold medals. She also earned three gold medals each in the ISSF Junior World Championships and Asian Junior Championships.
Shining senior career
In the ISSF World Cup 2022 in Cairo, Esha won two gold medals in team events and one silver medal in the 10m air pistol women’s event. In the ISSF World Championships 2023 in Baku, she claimed a gold medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.
In the Asian Shooting Championships 2024 in Jakarta, Esha won a gold medal in the 10m air pistol women’s event.
Four medals at the Asian Games 2022
In the Asian Games 2022, Esha shined with four medals, including one team gold medal. While her 25m pistol women’s team won the gold medal, she claimed silver medals in the 10m air pistol women, 25m pistol women, and 10m air pistol women’s team events.
Esha Singh’s special honours
Esha Singh was honoured with the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar in 2020. It is a civilian award bestowed upon achievers under the age of 18.
Esha was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 2023.

In the Asian Shooting Championships 2024, Esha Singh secured the Indian Paris 2024 Olympics quota in the 10m air pistol women’s event after securing a gold medal. However, in the four-stage national selection trials for the Paris 2024 Olympics, Esha finished in fourth place as Manu Bhaker and Rhythm Sangwan booked their Summer Olympics tickets for this event.
Meanwhile, Manu Bhaker and Rhythm Sangwan both booked the national quotas in the 25m pistol women’s event for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Later, in the four-stage national selection trials for the Paris 2024 Olympics, while Manu finished on top, Esha secured second place to confirm her first ticket for the Summer Olympics.
