The 2023/24 season will be memorable for Punjab FC as they will compete in the ISL as the first promoted side to the league. They achieved the feat by winning the I-League for the first time in the last campaign which was equally remarkable for them. Staikos Vergetis’s side eventually finished 10 points clear to the summit and lost just twice in 22 games available.
Now bound to face even stiffer challenge in the ISL, Punjab FC will hope to make a point and not just adding the number to the league. The I-League winners could not have asked for a tough start to their life in the now top-tier of Indian men’s football league when they kick-off the season on 23rd September 2023. This is because the Shers have to pay a visit to Salt Lake to face ISL trophy holders Mohun Bagan. Followed by a daunting trip to face a strengthened FC Goa team.
Punjab FC will play only one home game in the first two months of the 2023/24 ISL season with the matches being held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi. The first game against North East United FC is on 6th October 2023. Hyderabad FC will be their next visitors in November after they return from facing Shield winners Mumbai City FC. Punjab FC’s last game to conclude the first-half of the season will be another home fixture against Super Cup winners Odisha FC.
