Once upon a time, the three giants (Mohun Bagan-East Bengal-Mohammedan) of Calcutta football witnessed some imperious football managers. P. K. Banerjee, Amal Dutta, Subrata Bhattacharya and even Sanjay Sen tried to shine their names as triumphant coaches. Significantly, the role of Achyut Banerjee will always be remembered as a commanding manager of Kidder pore FC. The Bengalis even prospered during the golden days of Tollygunge Agragami and Aryan FC. A few years ago, Anjan Nath's name was to be heard as the Technical Director of United Sports Club.
In recent times, especially in the heyday of the Indian Super League, the penetration of Foreign footballing personalities is a common phenomenon. The hot seat of Diamond Barbour FC was to be chaired by former I-league championed Spanish maestro Kivu Vicuña. In the last season of Calcutta Football League, a commendable match reading ability of Mehrajuddin Wadoo sparked Mohammedan SC in the points table. But, due to a hapless defeat of the Black Panthers in front of Diamond Barbour FC in the last CFL season, Wadoo was compelled to resign. Meanwhile, the Russian Footballing Mastermind Andrey Chernyshov took the charge of Mohammedan SC and his guidance fetched the White and Black brigade to champion. Due to the marital affairs, the Nigerian Head Coach of Bhowanipore FC Sahid Raman surprisingly got the Visa of Indian subcontinent. Prior to him, Ranjan Chowdhury (the former I league championed assistant coach of Mohun Bagan Super Giant) were also to be served as the Chief football manager of Bhowanipore FC.
Deggie Cardozo (the former Head Coach of the Developmental Team of FC Goa has already been embedded in the charge of the reserves of Mohun Bagan Super Giant. During the fifth edition of Indian Super League, he was given the responsibility to find out the young talent from the then ATK. The point should be noted that, Sanjay Sen left his valuable service (as an Assistant Coach) with Antonio Lopez Habas and his team in the two crucial seasons (2019-2020 for ATK and 2020-2021for ATK MB). Most of the youth players of Mohun Bagan SG (10 out of 12) are non-Bengalese. Abhishek Suryavanshi, Sumit Rathi, Suhail Ahamed Bhat are some notables amongst them. On the other hand, Nandan Roy, Raja Barman, Raj Basfore, Dippendu Biswas Junior, Sayan Das, Shahil Kar, Uttam Hansda, Tapan Halder and Sandeep Malik should have a status to be a bright future of Bengal and the Indian as well. Besides the Bagan Captain Subhasish Bose, Dippendu Biswas Junior (the boy from Champahati, a census town of South 24 Paragana district of Bengal), has desperately registered his name in the regular senior squad of Green and Maroon Brigade. In the Last ISL season, his matured cum sensational playing style was chanted by the Mariners. Even in this ongoing season, Dippendu netted a brilliant strike against the North-East United FC in the home match of the Green and Maroon. In this regard, the Spanish Mastermind Habas drawn the all limelight for offering enough game time to this newly searched out talented Bengali guy. Jose Francisco Molina is also maintaining the same method to carefully preserve the Dippendu’s skill.
The scenario will also have to be same for the other two giants of Bengal football. The players like; Tanmay Ghosh and Defender Dipu Halder are successfully carrying the pride of Bengalese in Mohammedan Sporting Jersey. Significantly, Sayan Banerjee’s name should have to be considered as a new invention of Emami East Bengal in the preceded Calcutta Football League edition. The current head coach of Red and Gold Brigade’s developmental team, Bino George played a key role in the process of talent identification. His disciplinary framework and cent percent giving mentality will lead the players like; Debjit Roy, Ranit Sarkar etc. to be a future stars of the national levels. In recent times, Rahu Todi (the Managing Director of Shrachi Sports Group) has initiated to launch “Bengal Premier League” for scouting the possible rising footballers of the different fringes of Bengal. This football loving personality has devoted his role to fill the gap of the Bengalese.
