The fourth edition of the Super Cup rebranded as the Kalinga Super Cup will get underway in Odisha with 16 teams set to compete. All the 12 clubs from the Indian Super League (ISL) will be participating in it. However, only five teams from the I-League have expressed their interest in the competition - Gokulam Kerala FC, Sreenidi Deccan FC, Shillong Lajong FC, Inter Kashi and Rajasthan United FC. The top three of these teams, as per the I-League 2023-24 standings after the matches on December 24, 2023, will qualify directly for the Kalinga Super Cup group stage while a single-leg playoff battle between the fourth and fifth-ranked teams will decide the final team from the batch.
The teams have been divided into four groups with the top-placed side qualifying for the semi-finals. Group A consists of Mohun Bagan Super Giant, East Bengal FC, Hyderabad FC and the top-ranked participating team from the I-League with Group B containing Kerala Blasters, NorthEast United, Jamshedpur FC and the second I-League team. Mumbai City FC, Chennaiyin FC, Punjab FC and I-League 3rd Team make up Group C. At the same time, Group D seems to be an unpredictable one with ISL leaders FC Goa paired with defending champions Odisha FC, Bengaluru FC and the winner of the playoff.
The Kalinga Super Cup is scheduled to commence on January 8, 2024, with a playoff match between the fourth and fifth-placed teams from the I-League. The final of the tournament will take place on January 28, 2024, at the Kalinga Stadium. A total of 28 matches will be played across two venues. The victors of the competition will qualify for the 2024-25 season of AFC Champions League 2. The group stages of the tournament will feature some exciting matches, including the Kolkata derby and the rematch of last season's final between the defending champions, Odisha FC, and the runners-up, Bengaluru FC. The match between FC Goa and the Juggernauts will also raise the heat.
