World Athletics Championships 2023: Women’s 100 Metres – The Race and The Stunning Winner
On Monday (21 August), Sha'Carri Richardson finished the women’s 100m final in 10.65 seconds to win the gold medal. It was the new championship record that beat Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s record of 10.67 seconds in the 2022 edition.
It was the first major international championship for Richardson. In the early moment of the final race, Richardson wasn’t anyway favourite for the crown as she was fighting from behind, but she surprised everyone in the last moment of the race. Even the American racer herself couldn’t believe the final result.
After Tori Bowie’s gold medal in the 2017 edition, Richardson became the first American to win a medal in the women’s 100m race in the World Athletics Championships 2023.
