USA collected two gold medals in the 4 × 100 metres relay events at the World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest (Hungary) as both men’s and women’s teams brilliantly won the races.
It was the penultimate day of the World Athletics Championships 2023 (August 26), where both the finals were organised.
World Athletics Championships 2023: Men’s 4 × 100 Metres Relay – Noah Lyles’ 6th Championships gold medal as USA won the crown
Team USA secured the men’s 4 × 100 metres relay gold medal after setting up the new world-leading record by completing the race in 37.38 seconds.
Apart from Christian Coleman, Fred Kerley and Brandon Carnes, already double gold medallist in the World Athletics Championships 2023, Noah Lyles also took part in the men’s 4 × 100 metres relay final. With this gold medal, Lyles ended this Championship with three gold medals. Before this gold medal, he also won men’s 100m and men’s 200m gold medals.
Lyles has now recorded seven World Athletics Championships medals (six gold medals and one silver medal). Out of those, he earned two gold medals and one silver as the team in the men’s 4 × 100 metres relay events. Lyles became the sixth athlete and fourth USA athlete to record at least seven medals at the World Athletics Championships.
Meanwhile, Italy (37.62s) and Jamaica (37.76s) clinched the silver and bronze medals, respectively. Italy produced the season-best performance in that relay race.

World Athletics Championships 2023: Women’s 4 × 100 Metres Relay – USA defended the crown, Jamaican Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce extended their World Championships medals
The 23-year-old Sha'Carri Richardson enjoyed her second gold and third medal at the World Athletics Championships 2023 as the USA women set up a Championship Record (41.03s) to defend the title in the women’s 4 × 100 metres relay event. Jamaica had the previous Championship Record with 41.07 seconds.
For the USA team, Tamari Davis, Twanisha Terry, Gabrielle Thomas and Sha'Carri Richardson participated in the final event. At the World Athletics Championships 2023, Thomas bagged a silver medal in the women’s 200m race, while Richardson claimed stunning gold in the women’s 100m race and bronze in the women’s 200m race.
Just like the women’s 100m race at this Championship, Richardson and Jamaican Shericka Jackson had another great ultimate battle for the gold in the women’s 4 × 100 metres relay. However, focused Richardson was unshakable till the end of the race.
Meanwhile, Jamaica (41.21s) and Great Britain & Northern Ireland (41.97s) set up their respective season-best records to clinch the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
In the Jamaican team, Shericka Jackson clinched three medals at the World Athletics Championships 2023 (gold in women’s 200m, silver in women’s 100m and silver in women’s 4 × 100 metres relay). Jackson has ended the Budapest 2023 event with 11 World Championships medals.
Meanwhile, another Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce extended her World Championships medals tally to 16 (including one silver medal as only the heat member in the women’s 4 × 100 metres relay). After winning a bronze in the women’s 100m, it was Fraser-Pryce’s second medal at the World Athletics Championships 2023.
