Budapest (Hungary) hosted the World Athletics Championships 2023 between August 19 and 27, 2023. Unsurprisingly, the United States (USA) finished on top of the medals table with 29 medals, including 12 golds.
At the World Athletics Championships 2023, a total of 49 events were organised. Around 2100 athletes from 195 countries (excluding the countries from the Athlete Refugee Team) participated in the latest 19th World Athletics Championships edition.

Apart from one world record (Mixed 4x400m relay = 3:08.80 by USA), one world U20 record (Men’s 400m hurdles = 47.34 by Jamaican Roshawn Clarke), World Athletics Championships 2023 also experienced seven Championships records, 11 area records, 22 world leading performances and 73 national records.

USA finished on top of the medal tables with 12 golds, eight silvers and nine bronzes. Canada managed the second position with six medals (four golds and two silvers), and Spain earned the third spot with five medals (four golds and one silver).
(Hosts)
The hosts Hungary won only one bronze medal in the 19th edition of the World Athletics Championships. In the men’s hammer throw, Bence Halász secured a bronze medal for the hosts.

Countries with historic firsts at the World Athletics Championships 2023
Burkina Faso: 1st-ever gold
Hugues Fabrice Zango became the first-ever gold medallist for Burkina Faso at the World Athletics Championships. In the men’s triple jump event at the World Athletics Championships 2023, Zango won the gold medal.
Serbia: 1st-ever gold
Ivana Vuleta became the first gold medallist for Serbia at the World Athletics Championships. In the women’s long jump event at the World Athletics Championships 2023, she won the gold medal.
India: 1st-ever gold
Neeraj Chopra recorded India’s first-ever gold medal at the World Athletics Championships. He won the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw at the World Athletics Championships 2023.
Philippines: 1st-ever silver
EJ Obiena claimed the Philippines’ first-ever silver medal at the World Athletics Championships. At the World Athletics Championships 2023, Obiena secured a silver medal in the men’s pole vault event. Previously, the Philippines recorded only one bronze medal at the World Athletics Championships.
British Virgin Islands: 1st-ever medal
Kyron McMaster created history with the first-ever medal for the British Virgin Islands at the World Athletics Championships. It was the men’s 400m hurdles final at the World Athletics Championships 2023, where McMaster secured a silver medal.
Pakistan: 1st-ever medal
Meanwhile, Arshad Nadeem claimed Pakistan’s first-ever medal at the World Athletics Championships. In the men’s javelin throw event at the World Athletics Championships 2023, he won the historic silver medal.
