On the opening day (September 16) of the Diamond League Final 2023 in Eugene, Oregon, United States, American Christian Coleman and Jamaican Shericka Jackson won the men’s and women’s 100m race titles, respectively.

Men’s 100 metres: American Christian Coleman won his second Diamond League title

In the men’s 100 metres race, American duo Christian Coleman and Noah Lyles had a close competition with Kenyan Ferdinand Omanyala and Jamaican Kishane Thompson.

The 2018 Diamond League winner Coleman finished the race in 9.83 seconds and equalled the world-leading time.

The 2019 winner and present World Champion Lyles completed the final race in 9.85 seconds, the same as the third-placed Kenyan Omanyala. Meanwhile, Thompson finished in fourth place after completing the race in 9.87 seconds.

The USA has maintained its dominance as the country has won all the men’s 100m race Diamond League titles since 2018.

Women’s 100 metres: Jamaican Shericka Jackson won the crown

Jamaican Shericka Jackson won the women’s 100m race after finishing the Diamond League 2023 Final in 10.70 seconds. It was the third successive time Jamaica secured the women’s 100m race title at the Diamond League Final.

Three-time Diamond League women’s 100m race title holder (2016, 2017 Final, and 2021 Final), another Jamaican Elaine Thompson-Herah brought her season-best performance in the 2023 Final by completing the race in 10.79 seconds. However, she finished the final in the third position, behind Ivorian Marie-Josée Ta Lou’s season-best equalling performance (10.75 seconds).

The latest World Champion Sha'Carri Richardson finished the final in the fourth position as the American completed the race in 10.80 seconds.
