Spain claims four out of four golds in the race walk events at the World Athletics Championships 2023 (Budapest, Hungary) after Álvaro Martín and María Pérez won their respective second gold medals in the ongoing Championship by winning the 35 km race walk event.
World Athletics Championships 2023: Men’s 35km Race Walk Event – Álvaro Martín recorded his second gold medal in the running Championships
Spanish racewalker Álvaro Martín already secured a gold medal in the men’s 20km race walk event at the World Athletics Championships 2023 as he was the first gold medallist of the Championship.
In the men’s 35km race walk event on the sixth day of the World Athletics Championships 2023 (August 24), Martín set the national record to win the gold medal after completing the race in 2:24:30.
Just four seconds later, Ecuadorian Brian Daniel Pintado (2:24:34) completed the race to clinch the silver medal with an area record.
Japanese Masatora Kawano (2:25:12), the silver medallist in the World Athletics Championships 2022, set up his season-best performance to clinch the bronze medal for his country.

World Athletics Championships 2023: Women’s 35km Race Walk Event – María Pérez clinched her second gold medal in the ongoing Championships
Meanwhile, the women’s 20km race walk event gold medallist at the World Athletics Championships 2023, María Pérez, also shined with the gold medal in the women’s 35km race walk event. The Spaniard set a new championship record in the women’s 35km race walk event by completing the race in 2:38:40.
The previous championship record was 2:39:16 by the defending champion Kimberly García, who secured a silver medal for Peru in the Budapest event (2:40:52).
The two-time European Championship gold medallist (once in a 20km race walk and once in a 35km race walk), Greek Antigoni Ntrismpioti secured a bronze medal with her season-best performance (2:43:22).
