Most Runs in World Test Championship 2021-23

ICC World Test Championship 2021-2023 was the second edition of the ICC WTC.

Australia celebrated with their first WTC trophy after beating India in the Final of the latest WTC.

Here we are talking about the most run scorers in the ICC World Test Championship 2021-2023.

Joe Root (England)


There is no doubt to see English star and former Test captain Joe Root’s name in the top position in this list. The right-handed English batter was highly consistent in the entire WTC 2021-2023 as he scored 1915 runs in 40 innings. He scored eight centuries and six half-centuries.  

Root started the WTC 2021-2023 with three centuries and one half-century in the first five innings. During this competition, he thrice scored two consecutive centuries.

Usman Khawaja (Australia)

While Australia celebrated with the WTC 2021-2023 trophy, Usman Khawaja played a crucial role in this success. He scored 1621 runs in 30 innings in this competition along with six centuries and seven half-centuries.

The left-handed opening batter Khawaja made his Test comeback in January 2022 after missing the format for more than two years. In his comeback game, Khawaja hit twin centuries (137 and 101*) against England in the Sydney Test and continued his solid form in the entire WTC competition.

Marnus Labuschagne (Australia)

Another Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne is in the third position in this list. The right-handed batter scored 1576 runs in 35 innings, where he hit five centuries (including one double hundred) and five half-centuries.

Though Labuschagne has been struggling for big scores in Test cricket since December 2022, he hit four centuries in five Test innings (including three consecutive hundreds {including one double-century}) just before his ongoing dry run.

Babar Azam (Pakistan)

Pakistan captain Babar Azam was in great form during the WTC 2021-2023. The right-handed batter finished this competition as the leading run-scorer among Asian cricketers by scoring 1527 runs in 26 innings. He hit four centuries and ten half-centuries in this tournament.

In this competition, Babar impressively maintained his consistent performance with the bat. He once recorded five consecutive 50+ scores, including two centuries, and another time managed four 50+ scores in five innings, including one hundred.

Steven Smith (Australia)

Former Australian captain Steven Smith also had a massive influence on Australia’s maiden WTC trophy success. He ended this competition with 1407 runs in 32 innings, where he smashed four centuries (including one double hundred) and six half-centuries. 

One of his best innings in the tournament was 121 runs against India during the first innings of the tournament's Final.
