Sri Lankan cricketer Angelo Mathews recently lost his wicket on 199 runs in a Test innings against Bangladesh. After that unlucky dismissal, he became the first player in Test cricket history to get out on 99 and 199 runs.
Currently, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are playing a Test match at Chattogram in the two-match Test series, which is also a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23.
In the first innings of this Test series opener, Angelo Mathews fought very hard for the visitors as the right-handed no.4 batter already completed his 12th Test century on day one of this Test match. He continued his brilliant batting performance on the second day, but he was unluckily caught out for 199 runs.
As Sri Lanka were losing their wickets at regular intervals, Mathews was feeling short of a partner at the end. While Sri Lanka lost their ninth wicket in that innings in 149th over, Mathews knew that he had a very short time to complete his second Test double century.
On the final ball of the 153rd over of that innings, Mathews was batting on 199 runs, and his shot only found Shakib Al Hasan at square leg, who didn’t miss to grab that opportunity and end that Sri Lankan team innings to 397 runs. Unlucky Mathews was out on 199 runs off 397 balls with the help of 19 fours and only six.
Here are some crucial stats of that unlucky knock
Angelo Mathews became the second Sri Lankan batter to get out on 199 runs in a Test innings.
He was also the sixth Asian Test batter to be dismissed on 199 runs.
He also became the 12th cricketer to be dismissed on 199 runs in Test cricket.
Previously, in December 2009, when Sri Lanka toured India, Angelo Mathews was a victim of a run-out on 99 runs against the hosts India during the Brabourne Test match.
So, Mathews has experienced dismissals both on 99 and 199 runs in his Test career. He became the very first Test batter to experience both the dismissals on 99 and 199 runs.
