Though Parul Chaudhary couldn’t win a medal at the World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest, Hungary, she set up a new national record to book her place for the Paris 2024 Olympics in the women’s 3000m steeplechase event.
Paris 2024 Olympics: Parul Chaudhary met qualifying standards in the women’s 3000m steeplechase event
On the final day of the World Athletics Championships 2023 (August 27), the women’s 3000m steeplechase final was organised, where the Indian athlete Parul Chaudhary also qualified.
In the women’s 3000m steeplechase final, Chaudhary finished in the 11th position among the 15 participants. She completed the race in 9:15.31, which set up a new national record breaking the previous one of 9:19.76 by Lalita Babar during the Rio 2016 Olympics.

While the Paris 2024 Olympics qualifying standards for the women’s steeplechase event have been set at 9:23.00, Chaudhary comfortably achieved it at the World Athletics Championships 2023 final to book her ticket for the next Summer Olympics.
World Athletics Championships 2023: Women’s 3000m steeplechase – Medal winners
Bahrain claimed the only medal at the World Athletics Championships 2023 after Winfred Mutile Yavi (8:54.29) won the gold medal in the women’s 3000m steeplechase event. She beat the world record holder Kenyan Beatrice Chepkoech (8:58.98) to secure the gold comfortably. While the silver medal winner Chepkoech recorded her season-best performance, Yavi set a new world-leading (season-best performance worldwide).
On the other hand, another Kenyan Faith Cherotich claimed the bronze medal after setting up her personal best record (9:00.69).
