Manchester City hosted rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium having won their last 21 league matches. But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men halted the city party with a 2-0 victory.
Manchester United opened the scoring in the very first minute of the game after Bruno Fernandes slotted home a penalty after Anthony Martial was fouled in the box. Luke Shaw doubled the Reds lead early in the second half. Pep Guardiola's side did not turn up on the night, they had more than 65 percent of the possession but only had 6 shots. City lacked the cutting edge and accuracy while attacking. The decision making in the final third was not up to the standards the city had set in the previous 21 victories.
Manchester United really turned up for the game after goalless draws at Chelsea and Crystal Palace. Luke Shaw has massively upped his game this season, and his goal is just a proof of that. The English left-back has come back to life ever since the arrival of Alex Telles, which just goes on to show what competition can do to a player. Bruno Fernandes silenced some of his critics that said he did not perform against the 'Big 6' with a solid display in the middle of the park.
Manchester City are still 11 points clear on the top of the table. The league is most probably on its way back to the Etihad Stadium, this setback might just delay it. Manchester City did manage to tie their own record of 21 consecutive Premier League victories but failed to go past it.
