Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell produced a stormy knock in the slog overs against Netherlands at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as the right-handed batter recorded the fastest Cricket World Cup century in 40 balls.

Once again, Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium trends the cricket world for the fastest ODI World Cup century. Early in this tournament, South African Aiden Markram set a new fastest ODI World Cup century record with a 49-ball hundred against Sri Lanka at Delhi.

Australia vs Netherlands, the 24th match at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 experienced another insane batting performance at Delhi. After David Warner’s brilliant century, Australia comfortably crossed the 300-run mark.

But in the slog overs, Australia lost the wickets of top batting names, including the centurion David Warner. While the skipper Pat Cummins came to support Glenn Maxwell in the final overs of that innings, Maxwell destroyed the Dutch bowlers with his familiar furious batting performance.

After completing his fifty runs in 27 balls, which was the second fastest fifty at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, unstoppable Maxwell completed his century with a no-ball sixer in just 40 balls. Before getting caught out in the final over, Maxwell scored 106 runs in 44 balls with the help of nine fours and eight sixes. His batting helped the Aussies to score 399/8 in 50 overs.

In the 103-run partnership in 44 balls for the seventh wicket, skipper Cummins scored run-a-ball eight runs, while Maxwell added 91 runs in just 36 balls.

Fastest ODI World Century: Glenn Maxwell broke Aiden Markram's record

With the 40-ball century, Maxwell broke South African Aiden Markram’s (49-ball century) previous record for the fastest ODI World Cup century (Check List 1).

Meanwhile, Maxwell’s 40-ball century was the fourth fastest ODI century (Check List 2). He also broke the previous Australian fastest ODI century record, which he set with 51 balls against Sri Lankan during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 (Check List 3).
