Lowest Team Totals in ODI World Cup Final

While every team dreams of playing the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Final and winning it to lift the trophy, a low total is a heart-breaking incident for the team, especially in the ODI World Cup Final.

In this article, we are going through the lowest team totals in the ODI World Cup Final.

England – 194 vs West Indies in 1979

Chasing down the 287 runs target at the ICC Cricket World Cup 1979 Final against West Indies, England were bundled out for only 194 runs. Joel Garner bagged five wickets in that West Indies’ 92 runs victory, where the English openers, skipper Mike Brearley (64) and Geoff Boycott (57), scored half-centuries. Although the no.4 batter Graham Gooch scored 32 runs, the late batting collapse destroyed England’s chance to win their first ODI World Cup. The English side lost their last eight wickets for just 11 runs.

New Zealand – 183 vs Australia in 2015

During the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Final, Australia bundled out New Zealand for only 183 runs in the first batting. Mitchell Johnson (3/30), James Faulkner (3/36), and Mitchell Starc (2/20) dominated in the first innings, while Grant Elliott (83) and Ross Taylor (40) were the only Blackcaps to score some good runs. Australia chased down the target in 33.1 overs after losing three wickets.

India – 183 vs West Indies in 1983

In the first innings at the ICC Cricket World Cup 1983, West Indies bowled out India for 183 runs. Opener Kris Srikanth (38), Mohinder Amarnath (26), and Sandeep Patil (27) scored important runs, while Andy Roberts (3/32) was the best Caribbean bowler. As India won by 43 runs, the 183 was the lowest defending total record in the ODI World Cup Final history.

West Indies – 140 vs India in 1983

After India were all out for 183 runs, favourites West Indies still couldn’t chase the target in 60 overs. Madan Lal (3/32) and Mohinder Amarnath (3/12) performed strongly with the ball as the Caribbean team was bundled out for only 140 runs, and India won by 43 runs. Only Sir Viv Richards (33) and Jeff Dujon (25) managed to reach the 20-run marks.

Pakistan — 132 vs Australia in 1999

During the ICC Cricket World Cup 1999 Final, Pakistan were bundled out for 132 runs against Australia. Aussie leg-spinner Shane Warne had the bowling figures 9-1-33-4, while extras were the highest scorer in that innings with 25 runs and Ijaz Ahmed scored 22 runs. Australia chased down the target in 20.1 overs after losing two wickets.
