The 27-year-old triple jumper Abdulla Aboobacker won a gold medal for India in the Asian Athletics Championships 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand.
In the men’s triple jump event, the Commonwealth Games 2022 silver medalist Aboobacker produced the best jump with 16.92m to win a gold medal. Aboobacker managed that jump in his fourth attempt of that final event, which was the fourth-best jump in his career.
According to ESPN, the gold-medalist Aboobacker commented, "Because of rain, the (jumping) board was moving. Still, I was confident of doing well and I was able to do that finally."
In the meantime, Japanese Hikaru Ikehata won the silver medal (16.73m) and South Korean Kim Jangwoo secured the bronze medal (16.59m) in the same men’s triple jump event of the ongoing Asian Athletics Championships.
Who is Abdulla Aboobacker?
During the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham (England), Aboobacker won the silver medal in the men’s triple jump event (17.02m) by finishing just behind his fellow Indian Eldhose Paul (17.03m).
