On the fourth day of the Asian Athletics Championships 2023 (Saturday, 15 July), Anil Sarvesh Kushare won the silver medal in the men’s high jump, and Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan bagged the bronze medal in the men’s 400m hurdles.

In the men’s high jump, the 28-year-old Indian athlete Sarvesh Kushare secured the silver medal by covering a 2.26m distance. It was Sarvesh’s first medal for his country. South Korean Woo Sanghyeok won the gold medal with his 2.28m jump.
Meanwhile, Tawan Kaeodam of Thailand earned the bronze medal by clearing a distance of 2.26m.
Indian men’s high jump national record holder Tejaswin Shankar, who won a bronze medal in the men’s decathlon in the ongoing Championships, finished in seventh position in the men’s high jump.

On the other hand, India won a bronze medal in the men’s 400m hurdles as the 25-year-old Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan also won his first medal for the country.
Santhosh, who finished sixth place in the men’s 400m hurdles during the Asian Athletics Championships 2017 (50.95s), secured the bronze medal at Bangkok after finishing his run in 49.09 seconds. It was his season-best performance that brought a medal for India.
Qatari Bassem Hemeida (48.64s) and Japanese Kodama Yusaku (48.96s) completed the 400m hurdles before Santhosh to win the gold and silver medals respectively.
In the meantime, Yashas Palaksha didn’t participate in the men’s 400m hurdles final despite qualifying for the event. The reason behind his absence hasn’t been clarified yet.
