Indian players shined in the recently completed Asian Athletics Championships 2023 in Bangkok (Thailand). The country won a total of 27 medals to finish in the third position in the medals table, just behind Japan and China.
Supachalasai National Stadium (Bangkok, Thailand) organised the Asian Athletics Championships 2023 for five days from 12 July to 16 July 2023. A total of 42 countries participated in 45 events.
At the end of the 25th Asian Athletics Championships, Japan conquered with 37 medals (16 gold medals, 11 silver medals and ten bronze medals), while second-ranked China had 22 medals (eight golds, eight silvers and six bronzes).
Asian Athletics Championships: India won 27 medals
India secured 27 medals in the Asian Athletics Championships 2023. Out of those, six were gold medals, 12 were silver medals, and nine were bronze medals.
Talking about the number of total medals in an edition of the Asian Athletics Championships, India only had a better outing than the latest edition in 2017 at Bhubaneswar, where the host nation won 29 medals (ten golds, six silvers and 13 bronzes).
Abhishek Pal recorded the first medal for India in the Asian Athletics Championships 2023 with a bronze medal in the men’s 10000m.
Asian Athletics Championships 2023: Jyothi Yarraji and Parul Chaudhary won two medals each; Aishwarya Mishra had three success
Meanwhile, Jyothi Yarraji won the first gold medal for India in the women’s 100m hurdles. Apart from her one gold medal, Jyothi also claimed a silver in the women's 200m.
On the other hand, Parul Chaudhary also shined with two medals, gold in women’s 3000m steeplechase and silver in women's 5000m.
Aishwarya Mishra celebrated three medals, including two team medals. The women’s 400m bronze medallist was also a key part of the gold medallist mixed 4x400m relay team and bronze medallist women's 4x400m relay team.
Asian Athletics Championships 2023: Defending the title and new Championships record
Shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor was the only Indian to defend the crown in the Asian Athletics Championships 2023.
On the other hand, the gold medallist Indian mixed 4x400m relay team also set up a new Championships record.
Asian Athletics Championships 2023: India secured two spots for the Paris 2024 Olympics
Long jumper Murali Sreeshankar has booked his ticket for the Paris 2024 Olympics by winning the silver medal in the Asian Athletics Championships 2023.
On the other hand, despite no medal success in the Bangkok Championships, Avinash Sable has qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics in the men’s 3000m Steeplechase event.
