ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023: David Warner smashed his third 150+ score in his ODI World Cup career

After their poor start at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, the five-time ODI World Cup winners Australia are back on track with two successive victories. In the crucial encounter against Pakistan, David Warner smashed his third 150+ score in his ODI World Cup career to extend his record.

Both Australia and Pakistan were desperate to win the match when they faced each other in the 18th game at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in Bengaluru. After Pakistan chose to field first, Australia scored 367/9 in 50 overs, majorly thanks to the 250+ opening partnership. In reply, Pakistan were all out for 305 runs in 45.3 overs as the Aussies won the match by 62 runs.

Australian openers David Warner and Mitchell Marsh provided a very strong start for Australia. The opening partnership put 259 runs on the board in 203 balls. While Marsh scored 121 runs in 108 balls with 10 fours and nine sixes after completing his century in 100 balls, Warner scored 163 runs in 124 balls with 14 fours and nine sixes.

David Warner recorded his 5th CWC century and 3rd CWC 150+ score

The left-handed Australian opening batter Warner completed his first 50 runs in 39 balls. Later, he completed his 21st ODI century in 85 balls. It was Warner’s fifth century in his Cricket World Cup career. Warner then reached his third CWC 150 runs in 116 balls.

• While Warner is the only batter to hit more than one 150+ score in the CWC history, he has extended it to three. Before his 163-run knock, he scored 178 runs (vs Afghanistan at Perth in 2015) and 166 runs (vs Bangladesh at Nottingham in 2019) in his CWC career.

• After Ricky Ponting’s five CWC centuries, Warner became the second Australian to record five CWC hundreds.

• Warner became the fifth batter to record at least five CWC centuries.

Also, the 259-run opening partnership between Warner and Marsh was the second-highest opening partnership in the CWC history (Check List 1). Meanwhile, it was Australia’s second-highest CWC partnership for any wicket (Check List 2). Also, it was the sixth-highest partnership for any wicket in the CWC history (Check List 3).
