The visitors (West Indies) created history on the final day of the first test match when they chased down the impossible target of 395 runs in the fourth innings of the match. With the start of final day, West Indies still required 285 runs with 7 wickets in hands on the final day but they have reached the target with 3 wickets in hands with the unbeaten double hundred on debut by Kyle Mayers 210* to clinch the surreal victory. West Indies take the lead of 1-0 in the 2-match test series with the second test match starting from 11th February. This is the highest ever total chase by visiting team in the subcontinent so far and is the third successful chase over 300 plus runs after Australia 307 in 2008 and New Zealand 317 in 2006-07 season against the same opposition team (Bangladesh).
Before the start of the test series, West Indies have faced massive criticism over the 3-0 white-wash in the whit-ball Cricket fixtures against Bangladesh. Where Visitors have only managed to score 122, 148 and 177 in the 3 ODI games. But after the first test match result the uncertainties about the visitors (West Indies) spirit of cricket would now be over. West Indies proved it in their style that test cricket is still left in those who are playing without the services of their regular players and they have defeated the great Bangladesh side in Asia (which is not easy to do so). Earlier, Bangladesh captain won the toss and decided to bat first against the inexperienced West Indies bowling line-up.

Bangladesh has score 430 runs in the first innings with the brilliant century of Mehidy Hasan (103) and impactful knocks of Shakib Al Hasan (68) and Shahman Islam (59). In reply West Indies was looking at 253/5 at one stage but they have lost the next 5 wickets under the score of 6 runs on the scoreboard and all out at 259 runs in the first innings. Bangladesh again looked in trouble at one stage 73/4 before Mominul Haque and Liton Das added on 133 run partnership for the fifth wicket to take the lead over 300 plus in the second innings. As Bangladesh declared the second innings at 223 runs with the loss of 8 wickets before giving the target of 395 runs to West Indies. The hosts looked to derail the line-up of visitors when they reduced them to 59/3 at one stage. But debutants Kyle Mayers and Nkrumah Bonner put on the match-winning partnership for 216 runs for the fourth wicket to rescue his side and put them back into the hunt. Kyle Mayers remained unbeaten on 210 on his debut who also involved in another 100 run-partnership with Joshua Da Silva for the sixth wicket after West Indies was 292/5 at one stage. Before West Indies had made themselves into the record books with a surreal chase in the fourth innings and won the match by 3 wickets.
