Coach Bibiano Fernandes has set the target to reach the semifinals for the very first time in the 2023 AFC U17 Asian Cup Thailand which will guarantee them a place in the FIFA U17 World Cup later this year. It will be a historical feat for the Blue Colts who will make the grand stage for the first time as a qualified nation after hosting in 2017. The dream first needs to be fulfilled as India needs to be the absolute best to be among the top in a group containing Vietnam, Uzbekistan and title holders Japan. The progress of Vietnam is well noted and like India, this group of players are motivated to appear in their first U17 World Cup as well. The result of this meeting four years back will surely play in their minds making the Golden Stars an opposition to pay attention to keeping aside their obvious talent and quality. That defeat cost them the second spot in the group five years back as India clinched it and progress to knockouts with leaders Indonesia. Vietnam have qualified for the 2023 edition in Thailand after topping their qualifying group.
