Another week in Formula 1 means yet another Grand Prix and this time it was the legendary Grand Prix in Monza. The Italian Grand Prix is one of the original 4 races that are there in the Formula 1 calendar since the start and the drivers are very excited to race here. In this race Max Verstappen was chasing history as he was looking to become the first man to win 10 F1 races in a row. This race was not as exciting as the last one but it was enjoyable.
Let’s look at the Results of the Italian Grand Prix 2023:
Race Results
There were 3 delays to the start of the race as the first 2 formation laps did not work out properly. Yuki Tsonuda was out of the race in the first formation lap and so a second one had to be done. And after a 20 minutes delay the race started with Carlos Sainz in the lead with Max Verstappen in second place. Oscar Piastri jumps to P6. Lap 2 and Alexander Albon gets past Oscar Piastri and Carlos Sainz has a one second lead over Max Verstappen. It is Lap 7 and Charles Leclerc is doing his best to put pressure on Max Verstappen and Alexander Albon is at P6. Lap 12 of the race and Charles Leclerc is out of the DRS zone of Max Verstappen and this can prove important in the race.
Lap 15 and after a great battle Max Verstappen takes the lead of the race and now he has the record in his sights. Just a lap later Sergio Perez gets past George Russell and is at P4 and now Charles Leclerc is in his sights. It is Lap 17 and Max Verstappen is already 2 seconds ahead of Carlos Sainz. A good 3 way battle is on for P2 as Carlos Sainz, Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez are giving it their all. It is Lap 20 and both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc pit. Lap 24 and Oscar Piastri is leading a Formula 1 race for the first time in his debut season which is truly a moment to remember for him. Lap 26 and Max Verstappen is again In the lead of the race and is 4.5 seconds ahead of Carlos Sainz.
Lap 27 and Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris collided but no damage was done to either McClaren car. Lewis Hamilton pits in Lap 29 after being overtaken by Carlos Sainz, Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez in the same Lap. Lap 32 and Sergio Perez is neck and neck with Charles Leclerc and the next lap gets past him for P3. It is Lap 34 and P6 is hotly contested as Alexander Albon, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri battle it out. Lap 38 and Max Verstappen is 8.2 seconds ahead of Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez is putting the pressure from P3. It is Lap 42 and Lewis Hamilton and Oscar Piastri collide and Lewis Hamilton at fault. Lap 46 and Sergio Perez finally takes the P2 position from Carlos Sainz and not a lot of laps left in the race. Lap 47 and Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz nearly collided. Lewis Hamilton gets past Alexander Albon and is now upto P6. The race is over and Max Verstappen wins the race as well as a record 10th consecutive Grand Prix win. Sergio Perez finished P2 and Carlos Sainz just barely finished P3.
