Oldest Formula 1 Circuit

Formula 1 is one of the most popular sports events in the world. It is held all around the world and a total of 24 races are there in the 2024 season. However there are a few race circuits which have been there since the start and they are considered legacy circuits.

5) Zandvoort Circuit


At a very close 5th place is the Zandvoort Circuit which was also opened in 1948. This is the Grand Prix of the Netherlands. This race track is 4.259 kms in length. It was present till 2017 and then it was off the calendar for 4 years. It made a comeback in 2021 as Max Verstappen was the star of Formula 1 from the Netherlands. The capacity of the Circuit is 105,500. The race lap record for this circuit is by Lewis Hamilton who had a timing of 1.11.097 at the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix.


4) Silverstone Circuit


This is the Grand Prix which is held in England. This is one of the most prestigious races in the calendar. This was first started in 1948 and from 1950 it was known as the British Grand Prix. The England MotoGP is also held at this circuit. The capacity of this Circuit is 160,000. The length of this track is 5.891 kms. The Lap record at this circuit is Max Verstappen of Red Bull who had a timing of 1:27:097 in the 2020 British Grand Prix. There are a number of British drivers such as Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris and George Russell who want to perform well at this circuit.


3) Monaco Circuit

The third oldest race circuit is the Monaco Circuit. This was opened on 14th April 1929 which is 95 years ago. This is held in Monte Carlo and it is 3.337 kms in length, which makes it the shortest F1 track. The capacity of the race track is 30,000. The race lap record for this Circuit is by Lewis Hamilton who had a timing of 1:12:909 at the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix. The first race on this track was held in the year 1929. Charles Leclerc is a driver in the current grid who is from Monaco.


2) Monza Circuit


Monza is the second oldest f1 circuit in Formula 1. It was built in 1922 which was more than 100 years ago. This is a track which is 5.793 Kms in length. It was the oldest circuit in Europe. Ever since 1949, The Italian Grand Prix has been held with the exception of 1980 when the track was closed. It has a capacity of 118,865. The Lap record for This track is 1:21:046 by Rubens Barrichello in the 2004 Italian Grand Prix.


1) Spa Circuit

The oldest Formula 1 race circuit is the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps or commonly known as Spa Circuit which was opened in August 1921. This is also known as the Belgium Grand Prix Track. This is a 7.004 kms race track which is a motor racing circuit. It is one of the longest F1 tracks. It hosted its first race in 1925. Ever since 1985, there has been a Grand Prix every year except 2003 and 2006. The capacity of this race circuit is 70,000. The race lap record at this circuit is by Valteri Bottas who had a timing of 1:46:286 at the 2019 Grand Prix.
