After the record-breaking opening
day of the only Women’s Test between India Women and South Africa Women in
Chennai, India Women set up a new history by breaking an all-time record in
Women’s Test cricket history. Harmanpreet Kaur-led India recorded the highest
total in Women’s Test history.
On the opening day, India set the record total in a day of Women’s Test cricket history with 525/4, largely thanks to the record-breaking opening partnership (292 runs) between Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana. Both openers scored big hundreds, as Mandhana scored 149 runs and Verma (205) recorded the fastest double century in Women’s Test history.
India Women recorded the highest innings total in Women’s Test history
On the second day, captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh completed their respective 50s. While Kaur scored 69 runs, Ghosh was out for 89 runs. Kaur and Ghosh had a 143-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Their knock helped India Women become the first team to score 600+ runs in a Women’s Test innings, as Kaur declared the innings at 603/6. The Indian innings was also the third time in a Women’s Test innings history that ended with five 50+ scores.

In reply, South Africa Women scored 236/4 at
the end of the day. While Sune Luus scored 65 runs, Marizanne Kapp remained not
out on 69 runs.
Indian bowler Sneh Rana bagged three wickets on
day two as she ended the day with the bowling figures of 20-2-61-3.
