India women had a strong debut despite a rain washout forced the game to end with no result. In the first Quarterfinal of women’s cricket at the Asian Games 2022 Hangzhou (China), India met Malaysia, which ended with a no result as India Women’s advanced to the Semifinals due to higher seeding.

Asian Games 2023: Women’s Cricket – India Women scored 173 runs in 15 overs, set the target of 177 runs

After Malaysia women chose to field first, when India Women were batting at 60/1 in 5.4 overs, rain interrupted the game. The match was shortened to 15 overs, where India Women scored 173/2 and set the target of 177 runs.


Shafali Verma became the first Indian to score 50 runs at the Asian Games

Opener Shafali Verma scored 67 runs in 39 balls with the help of four fours and five sixes. Meanwhile, Jemimah Rodrigues was not out on 47 runs in 29 balls with the help of six fours. Skipper Smriti Mandhana, who was another opener in that innings, scored 27 off 16 balls (five fours), while wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh scored 21 off seven balls (three fours and only six).

Shafali Verma created history by becoming the first Indian to score a fifty at the Asian Games history.

Rain again interrupted the match when Malaysia Women just started the innings by scoring one run in two balls. Restarting the game wasn't possible, as India Women qualified for the Semifinals for having the higher seeding status.

In the other Quarterfinal of the day, the Pakistan vs Indonesia match failed to provide even the toss as Pakistan Women entered the Semifinals due to higher seeding.
