Team India is one of the strongest sides in T20 international cricket. While this team is popular for the batting, they are one of the strongest chasing teams in the T20I format.
Here, we are going through the highest successful run chases by India in T20I history.
How did India record their highest successful T20I chase?
Chasing 209 runs vs Australia (Visakhapatnam 2023)
After Australia scored 208/3 in 20 overs, thanks to Josh Inglis 110 runs in 50 balls, India lost the first two wickets in just 22 runs in 2.3 overs. However, the T20I debutant skipper Suryakumar Yadav and wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan had a brilliant 112-run partnership for the third wicket that put the hosts in control over the game.
After Ishan was dismissed for 58 runs in 39 balls with the help of two fours and five sixes, the new Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav strongly handled the innings. Before the Indian skipper was dismissed in the 18th over, where India were still 15 runs away from victory, the Player of the Match Yadav scored 80 runs in 42 balls with the help of nine fours and four sixes.
Also, Rinku Singh had a crucial cameo in India’s record-successful T20I chase, as he was not out with 22 runs in 14 balls. While all the other batters were dismissed, Singh stayed in the crease at the end and finished the game in style.
Although India needed one run to win on the final ball, the Aussie bowler Sean Abbott delivered a no-ball as Singh’s final-ball sixer didn’t count on the scoreboard.
