Here is the list of the top innings totals in the history of test cricket:
1. Sri Lanka (952/6 d):
One the greatest innings in the history of cricket, this innings from Sri Lanka is always special. Against India in 1997 this was the second innings score of Sri Lanka. In a match which was played at Colombo, Sri Lankan batsmen faced a total of 272 overs and scored this amount of runs with a run rate of 3.51 runs per over. 952 runs in an innings is considered as one of the greatest innings of all time in cricket history.
2. England (903/7):
The series against England and Australia is always special and has a separate fan base. The second highest innings total in test history comes from one such series. In the series of 1938 played at the Oval cricket ground, England scored a first innings total of 903/7 facing a total of 335.2 overs. The run rate in which England scored this total is 2.69. This innings still holds the record for the second highest innings total in test history.
3. England (849):
The highest innings total of test history also comes from the birthplace of cricket. It is against the West Indies that England achieved this feat. In 1930, in the first innings of the Kingston test match, England faced a total of 258.2 overs and made a total of 849. They scored this total with a run rate of 3.28 runs per over. This is also the highest test total at that time.
4. West Indies (790/3 d):
The fourth highest innings total in the history of test cricket was taken by West Indies against Pakistan. In the test match against Pakistan which was held on 26th February 1958, West Indies made a second innings total of 790/3. To achieve this milestone West Indies players faced a total of 208 overs and scored the run at a rate of 3.79 runs per over.
5. Pakistan (765/6 d):
Pakistan stands in the fifth of this list. Pakistan cricket team in a test against Sri Lanka in the year 2009 scored a gigantic second innings total of 765 runs losing only 6 wickets. This is the highest innings total ever made by the Pakistan cricket team. To achieve this number Pak team faced a total of 246 overs.

6. Sri Lanka (760/7 d):
Sri Lanka again comes in the top 10 list with their performance against India. In the Ahmedabad test of 2009, Lanka scored a total of 760 runs losing 7 wickets and declared in the first innings. In order to reach this high margin of runs Lankan batsmen faced a total of 203 overs and scored runs with a 3.75 runs per over rate.
7. India (759/7 d):
Highest innings total in India’s test cricket history was born on 16th December 2016 against England at Chennai. It is under the captainship of Virat Kohli that India reached this milestone. In that test match India scored a total of 759 runs by losing only 7 wickets. Indian batsmen faced a total of 190 overs and scored runs at 3.98 runs per over.
8. Australia (758/8 d):
Australia’s highest test total is 758 runs taken by losing 8 wickets that they made against West Indies on 11th June 1955. It was the 408th test in history and Australia scored this massive total by facing a total of 245 overs.
9. Sri Lanka (756/5 d):
Yet another test high score in innings by Sri Lanka. On July 27th 2006 Sri Lanka made a massive second innings total of 756 runs against South Africa. It was a home series for Sri Lanka and the team batted for a total of 185 overs and scored runs at a rate of 4.08 runs per over.
10. West Indies (751/5 d):
The 10th highest team total in the history is now in the name of the West Indies cricket team. In April 2004 they scored a total of 751 runs against England in the first innings. West Indies team batted for a total of 202 overs and scored at a rate of 3.71 runs per over.
