The 2023/24 season is probably going to be the most important one for Odisha FC as they venture into the continental competition alongside their league commitments. They will participate in the AFC Cup for the first time. Courtesy of winning the Super Cup last season which replaced their disappointing ISL campaign last time. The Juggernauts ended only at the first stage of the playoffs in the league.
Due to the AFC Cup, Odisha FC made significant improvements to their squad including multiple Shield winners from Mumbai City FC in Mourtada Fall and Ahmed Jahouh. Both also have AFC Champions League playing experience with the Islanders. There have been other huge signings as well like CY Goodard, former MCFC as well and Roy Krishna. However, the headlining change was bringing Sergio Lobera back into the league in the head coach role.
Odisha FC’s much-promising season begins on 23rd September 2023 when they take on Chennaiyin FC at Kalinga Stadium. Lobera will then meet his ex-employees in a huge clash with Mumbai City FC just five days later. The Juggernauts will travel to Goa as their first away match of the season making it a difficult start for them. Also considering the fact that they will face ISL trophy winners Mohun Bagan before even the league season begins in their first-ever AFC Cup game.
